These are five beaches that each have a unique appeal that make them irresistible for holiday makers. 

Jungle Beach – An intimate escape

Situated within a hand’s distance of the ocean, Unawatuna is a popular spot for both locals and non-locals alike. Jungle beach is a secluded little beach found in Unawatuna that is ideal for a private getaway. According to travellers there is a bit of a hike to reach this area, however the ambience is worth the effort. As of late it has become a very trendy choice for pre wedding photo shoots.

Pigeon Island National Park – Beach, flora and fauna

Located in the Trincomalee district, Pigeon Island is perhaps one of the most beautiful islands in the country. The beach surrounding the area is complete with sparkling sapphire like waters and is a delight for visitors. In addition, the island hosts one of the best remaining coral reefs in the country making it an engaging attraction.

Passikudah Beach – Translucent shores

The crystalline waters of the Passikudah beach invites even the most aquaphobic person to at least feel its shores. It is mostly known for its long stretch of coastline, which essentially means that people can walk miles into the sea because the water is only a few inches deep.  Found in the district of Batticaloa, Passikudah has become a popular spot amongst the native and international traveller.

Arugam Bay – Surfers’ paradise

If you are a thrill seeking adventurer, Arugam Bay is the best choice for an excursion.  Complete with several quality breaks, Arugam Bay is the ultimate surfer’s beach in the country. Found in the district of Ampara, Arugam Bay is based 4 km from the town of Pottuvil. Besides its obvious purpose, the surrounding area is appealing with historical temples and lagoons to explore.

Hikkaduwa Beach – Tourist destination

Hikkaduwa is probably the number one tourist beach destination in the country. If you want to have some fun under the sun, Hikkaduwa is the place to go. In addition to its enigmatic presence, complete with bits of coral, the pristine shores of Hikkaduwa are inviting at any given moment. A seasoned tourist favourite, the area is complete with restaurants serving fresh seafood.
